N Scale Apartments
Placement of Model Railroad Apartments and Condominiums on your model train layout can add a more
trendy "urban" type appeal to your hobby project.
These multi-family dwellings are sure to please model railroaders who are going for more of an urban or
suburban feel for their layout. And, providing the building you purchase isn't too futuristic or
city-like, these can easily be incorporated into a rural train table setting as well.
As with all model train scenery, buildings and structures add interest and detail to what would otherwise be a
somewhat boring collection of trains atop a piece of plywood. Proper construction and placement of
scenery and structures is key to creating a realistic train layout.
When placing houses, apartments, banks, farms, factories, train stations etc. think about how the structures fit
into the surrounding area. For instance:
- If you're placing a depot or station you need to consider... "Where are the railroad tracks?" Without
them and the locomotive that will run on them, the passenger station probably won't serve the town folk
very well.
- Same basic principles apply to all other buildings too. If you're placing a condo, house or other
residential dwelling it would probably be a swell idea to put it beside some sort of road.
- And, a factory might require both train tracks and a street. One for providing the railroad industry with
goods and services and the roads to serve the trucking industry or both.
Anyway, I won't ramble on about this obvious factor. I'm sure you have enough common sense to figure it out.
Just make the scenery as realistic as possible. Don't put a house, apartment, condominium, or
any other N scale building for that matter; on top of a mountain without a road for the people to come
and go. It won't look believable if you do.
