Bachmann N-Scale Trains
Bachmann Industries (not the original name) was originally founded by Henry Carlisle in 1833 and specialized in
vanity products. In 1899 Henry Carlisle merged with a company owned by Henry G. Bachmann, and as a result the
companys name was changed to Bachmann Brothers.
In 1929 Bachmann Brothers became the first American company to manufacture sunglasses. In 1947 Bachmann began
producing plastic christmas tree fencing which oddly enough, led to the addition of model railroad supplies to its
product line, and thus the birth of the Plasticville brand.
Bachmanns Plasticville line was originally only introduced for O scale model railroading. However, the company
later extended the Plasticville line to include products for HO and N scale model railroaders as well.
Due to the increasing popularity of N gauge trains, Bachmann officially entered the model railroad market in
1968. Shortly after the introduction of N scale products, Bachmann Brothers introduced its HO model railroad
line.
Since its founding by Henry Carlisle in 1833, numerous changes have taken place. In 1981, Bachmann was acquired
by Kader Group and its name was changed to Bachman Industries.
Today, Bachmann Industries is the largest seller of model trains in the world, and to the delight of the N scale
model railroader, Bachmann produces a wide selection of locomotives, rolling stock, buildings, digital command
control (dcc) units etc...
